Objectives
The Parent Support Group (PSG) aims to:
- establish a close partnership with the school in supporting its programmes to enhance student learning and school experience;
- provide a platform for parents to build genuine friendships and provide opportunities for meaningful collaboration;
- provide a platform for parents to share parenting skills and experiences;
- initiate and implement programmes that enhance parenting skills;
- initiate and implement programmes that promote student well-being;
- uphold the image and interests of the school.
Policy
Election Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
- The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the PSG must be parents of children currently schooling in Tanglin Secondary School at the point of appointment;
- Election will be held every 2 years for re-elections of position-holders in the PSG;
- Election of position-holders will be held by end January of the election year;
- Position-holders will serve in Office for a term of 2 years, to a maximum of 2 terms;
- Each PSG member is subjected to one vote and has to vote in person;
- No proxy or representation is allowed when voting;
- There must be an attendance of at least 70% of members for election to take place.
Position-Holders’ Roles & Responsibilities
The PSG Chairman:
- leads the PSG in working closely with the School to champion the School’s Vision, Mission, Values and Goals;
- leads the PSG in supporting the School in its programmes and causes;
- works closely with the School’s PSG liaison officer to coordinate and administer PSG meetings and programmes;
- is the uniting factor that binds the PSG in working together for the common interest of the school’s parent and student population.
The PSG Vice-Chairman:
- assists the Chairman in leading the PSG to work closely with the School to champion the School’s Vision, Mission, Values and Goals;
- assists the Chairman in leading the PSG in the support of the School in its programmes and causes;
- works closely with the School’s PSG liaison officer to coordinate and administer PSG meetings and programmes;
- represents the Chairman in his/her absence in administering the roles of the Chairman.
The PSG Secretary:
- records minutes in PSG meetings;
- assists the Chairman in communicating to PSG members on notice of meetings and updates of PSG programmes.
The PSG Treasurer:
- keeps proper accounting records of the PSG account;
- updates the PSG regularly on the status of the PSG accounts;
- advises PSG on the use of PSG funds.
